Decree No 445 of 26 August 2008

On Some Issues of State Statistics Bodies

The Ministry of Statistics and Analysis of the Republic of Belarus is transformed into the National Statistics Committee of the Republic of Belarus – a national government body with direct subordination to the President. Respective Decree No 445 was signed by President Alexander Lukashenko on 26 August.

This document makes the national statistics body no longer subordinate to the Government and totally independent in its professional activity as required by the Code of Practice for European statistics adopted in 2005.

While the status of the state statistics bodies changes, their objectives, functions, rights and obligations remain intact.

As before, the National Statistics Committee will fulfil the functions of inter-industry regulation and coordination of activity of all government bodies with respect to nation-wide and agency-wise statistics; provide both bodies and agencies of state administration and the population of Belarus with statistical information.
