The emphasis on knowledge, talent and intellect is the foundation of the contemporary social and economic development strategy of Belarus. The search for and education of young prodigies is the most important thing for the state, said President Alexander Lukashenko on 30 May at a meeting with gifted school and university students, prise-winners of the presidential special funds.

Invited to this meeting, which has already become traditional, were winners of international Olympiads in various subjects; winners of creative contests and festivals; laureates of the special presidential funds providing social support for the gifted school and university students; talented youth; and nine teachers.

“The emphasis on knowledge, talent and intellect is the foundation of the contemporary social and economic development strategy of Belarus. The search for and education of young prodigies is the most important thing for the state,” said President Alexander Lukashenko. Energetic, hard-working and gifted people are Belarus’ most precious asset.

Belarus is sincerely proud of its young intellectual and creative talents; pins great hopes of them and has a firm belief that the successes they have achieved so far will not be the only ones in their lives, the Head of State said.

Over 12 years, the special presidential funds awarded prises and scholarships to more than 18,000 school and university students and teachers; many scientific and artistic projects have been fulfilled.

Much is being done in Belarus to discover and develop talents in young Belarusians: lyceums and gymnasiums have been established, numerous schools of art have been opened, as well as various hobby groups, studios, amateur artistic groups. The implementation of the national programme “Young Talents of Belarus” has been progressing well.
