Congratulations on Victory Day09.05.2008

Dear countrymen,

I cordially congratulate you on Victory Day.

This is the most memorable and glorious date in the history of our nation, which symbolises our people’s heroism, their courage and selflessness displayed in fighting against the Nazis for the freedom of the dear country.

The deeds and actions of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War deserve eternal recognition of the world community. The nation that suffered horrendous damage from the treacherous aggression, was forging the Victory which came at a high cost.

Many of our countrymen did not live to see the liberation. They fell in combat, were burned in the flames of Khatyn, died in concentration camps. Today we glorify their unprecedented exploit done in the name of the humanity.

Dear veterans, good health to you for years and years to come!

Honour and glory to you, the Victors!

We will never let anyone profane the Great Victory, never let it be cast slurs upon. The new generations of the Belarusians have a great respect for the feat of arms of their grandfathers and fathers, and, by building a peace-loving sovereign state, they demonstrate loyalty to the guidelines left to them by those who shed blood for the right to exist for our Fatherland.

On this truly sacred day I wish all fellow citizens festive mood, optimism, wellbeing and a peaceful sky above.

Alexander Lukashenko
