On 4 March, the President of the Republic of Belarus signed Decree No. 144 which abolishes the golden share rule, or a special privilege that the government had, which enabled it to participate in management of economic entities.
The abolishment of that rule will promote the creation of an enabling environment for direct foreign investments in the real production sector of the Belarusian economy and meeting the country’s 2008 economic growth targets; it will also help Belarus improve its international rating and will safeguard the rights of investors on the stock market. |
