On May 7, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Belarus, Natalia Petkevich, reported to the President of the Republic of Belarus on the examination of the draft law concerning the rules on access to social benefits.
The draft law under examination has had a wide repercussion in society – it impacts on the interests of many citizens who receive social benefit payments. Not always has this repercussion been positive. However, the system of benefits which dates back to Soviet times cannot but be subject to amendments, especially under the latest economic conditions. During the report, the Head of State reaffirmed yet another time his position: the issue on the regulation of access to social benefits must be resolved; this process has already been largely protracted. During the last and the preceding election campaign the people themselves were accentuating the need to ensure proper order in the provision of social benefits. |
