 Belarus will continue complying with its obligations in the field of the defence of the Union State. A statement to this effect was made by the President of the Republic Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, on April 20, at his meeting with the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, Anatoly Serdyukov. The Russian guest arrived in Minsk to attend a joint meeting of the board of the ministries of defence of Belarus and Russia that took place in the Belarusian capital.
Specifically, Alexander Lukashenko said: “Despite whatever relations between the leaders of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, the military security of our states is a sacred cause. This sphere must not be used by whomever as a political lever. We have never done that, nor are we going to do. In ensuring the defence capability of our Union State, Belarus must proceed from the fact that this is our common Fatherland and only joint effort can ensure its defence.” For this reason, largely on the initiative of the President, a joint grouping of the armed forces has been created in the western regions whose core components are the units of the Belarusian Army. |
