The Republic of Belarus is a unitary, democratic, social state based on the rule of law. The Constitution in force of the Republic of Belarus was adopted in 1994, with the subsequent amendments and additions adopted at the national referenda on November 24, 1996, and October 17, 2006.

The President of the Republic of Belarus is the Head of State . The Parliament - the National Assembly is a representative and legislative body of the Republic of Belarus. The Parliament consists of two chambers - the House of Representatives (110 deputies) and the Council of the Republic (64 members).

Executive power in the Republic of Belarus is exercised by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus headed by the Prime Minister.

State power in the Republic of Belarus is exercised on the principle of division of powers between the legislature, executive and judiciary. State bodies within the confines of their powers, are independent: they co-operate among themselves acting on the principle of checks and balances.

Supervision of the constitutionality of enforceable enactments of the state is exercised by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus.
