On March 1, in pursuance of the respective decrees, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko conferred the title “Hero of Belarus” on the citizens who have made exceptional contributions to the socio-economic development of our country, to the spiritual revival of the Belarusian people.

Honoured with this high title are very renowned persons of our republic: Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk, the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus Filaret; director of the state cultural establishment “Creative academic studios of painting, graphics and sculpture” Mikhail Savitsky; general director of the republican unitary enterprise of research and engineering “Belavtotraktorostroyeniye” of the National Academy of Sciences Mikhail Vysotsky, chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus Piotr Prokopovich, chairman of the agricultural production cooperative “Progress-Vertelishki” in Grodno district Vasily Revyako.
