The celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory must be worthy of the feat that was performed by our war veterans. This is what was underscored by the Head of State on January 19th at the fourth sitting of the Republican Organizing Committee for holding the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from German-Fascist invaders and the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. Attending the sitting were the chief executives of the government bodies, mass media, Heroes of the Soviet Union, representatives of the veteran and non-governmental organizations.
The President emphasized that the Victory in the Great Patriotic War is the greatest asset of our people.
During the preparation for holding the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus, a voluminous work was accomplished in order to render help to war participants. Full survey of the living conditions of the veterans was carried out, those in need were given vouchers for improving their health at sanatoria and heath resorts and provided with telephone services, many of them were helped with social services at their homes. Considerable funds were allocated for the support of veterans and participants of the Great Patriotic War over the recent years. The 2005 budget stipulates an increase by 1.5 times for such allocations, pointed out Alexander Lukashenko.
Considerable positive experience that we have gained in preparing for the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from German-Fascist invaders must be applied, on the eve of the Great Victory, to all the lonely elderly persons who are in need of support, the President said. |
