Following the tradition, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko took part in the nation-wide day of voluntary work (subbotnik).
Belarus is preparing to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its liberation from the German-Fascist invaders and the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. Therefore, it is not fortuitous that this year Alexander Lukashenko took part in the work on restoring the State Memorial Complex “Khatyn.” Khatyn memorial, being a tribute to courage of the Belarusian people, was opened in 1969 and requires serious restoration today.
On having arrived at Khatyn Alexander Lukashenko laid a wreath of flowers at the monument to the Unsubdued Man. The Head of the State overviewed in detail the operations under way for the restoration of the memorial complex, which started in September 2003. The President criticized slow progress in the reconstruction of the memorial whose importance is great not only for Belarusians, but also for the citizens of the entire post-Soviet space. In view of the President, there is a need to speed up the reconstruction: the restoration of the memorial complex must be completed by the 3rd of July. If additional funding and specialists are required to cope with the task, the State will provide all the necessary help, underscored the President.
During the subbotnik, the team of the President, which included top-level officials of our country and ordinary workmen, were involved in concreting the foundation and steps of the platform near the Khantyn's Eternal Flame.
The funds raised in the nation-wide subbotnik will be targeted for the restoration of the monuments of the Great Patriotic War. |
