The new Road Traffic Regulations shall enter into force from January 1, 2006. This decision was taken by the President of the Republic of Belarus at the meeting on the draft Decree ‘On Measures for Enhancing Road Traffic Safety.’
Elaboration of new Road Traffic Regulations is a very topical issue. It is important for millions of people and touches upon the interests of every citizen of Belarus: both drivers and pedestrians. Hence the increased attention to this issue on the part of the country’s leadership. The number of vehicles in the republic grows with every passing year, road traffic intensity increases too. Unfortunately, it is accompanied by growth in the number of accidents, of deaths and injuries. Therefore, ensuring road traffic safety is a major priority in the activities of the Belarusian State.
Given this factor, Alexander Lukashenko has taken a decision that from now onwards the road traffic regulations shall be approved by a respective Decree of the President of Belarus.
The President of the Republic of Belarus demanded that “harsh barriers be placed against the irresponsible attitude of drivers, passengers, pedestrians towards safety on the roads.” Alexander Lukashenko focused attention on the need to enhance exactingness of the respective services towards drivers.
