Address to soldiers-internationalists, veterans of the war in Afghanistan15.02.2012

Dear friends,

Today the Day of Remembrance of soldiers-internationalists is celebrated in the country.

Sharing the pain of the loss, we sincerely sympathize with those who lost their sons, husbands, brothers.

Soviet soldiers fulfilled their duties with dignity; they did not break their oaths even at the cost of their lives. They sought to establish peace in the country torn by bloody conflicts and displayed courage and heroism. Many of them were decorated with military awards.

Modern world did not become kinder, more peaceful and secure. The number of flashpoints on the planet keeps increasing. Therefore, the defense of the Motherland against new threats and challenges is of top priority today. Your invaluable experience gained in local conflicts becomes even more significant in the present-day conditions. You make a weighty contribution in ensuring stability in the society, nurturing patriotism among young people and make an excellent example for the new generation.

I wish you, your relatives, and beloved ones strong health, happiness, and well-being.

Alexander Lukashenko
