Address to soldiers-internationalists, veterans of the war in Afghanistan15.02.2011

To soldiers-internationalists, veterans of the war in Afghanistan

Distinguished comrades,

On February 15 the Republic of Belarus is celebrating Remembrance Day for Soldiers-internationalists.

In Afghanistan, the Soviet forces, which included our countrymen among others, displayed bravery and selflessness in fighting international terrorism and showed an example of honest fulfillment of military duty.

We will always remember the feat of arms of the soldiers-internationalists who despite mortal danger were doing their utmost to bring peace to the land of Afghanistan.

Many Belarusians never returned home from that war, and we are paying tribute to those who survived and commemorating the fallen heroes.

I wish you, soldiers-internationalists, your families and loved ones, peace, health and happiness.

I thank you for your courage and firmness, principled and responsible position, your active citizenship, for everything you do to strengthen the sovereignty and independence of Belarus.

Alexander Lukashenko
